New Year, New Start

This means prioritizing our relationship with God above all else. When we do this, everything else in our lives falls into place. It's a profound reminder that our primary goal should be to align ourselves with God's will and His purposes.

In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are encouraged to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not rely on our own understanding. This can be challenging, especially when we face uncertainties and challenges. However, acknowledging God in all our ways means inviting Him into every aspect of our lives—our decisions, our plans, and our daily activities. By doing so, we allow Him to guide us and direct our paths. The promise is clear: when we trust in Him and seek His guidance, He will make our paths straight.

As we embark on this new year, let's make a conscious effort to put God first in everything we do. This might involve setting aside time each day for prayer and Bible study, being more intentional in our worship, or seeking to serve others in love. When we prioritize God's kingdom, we open ourselves up to His blessings and His direction for our lives.

Today, we focus on dedicating our work and actions to the Lord. Colossians 3:23-24 emphasizes the importance of doing everything heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. This means that no matter what task is before you, whether big or small, it should be done with enthusiasm and sincerity as if you are doing it directly for God. This mindset transforms mundane tasks into acts of worship and aligns our hearts with His will.

In 1 Corinthians 10:31, we are reminded to do everything for the glory of God. This verse widens the scope to include all aspects of our lives, not just our work. Whether we are eating, drinking, or carrying out daily responsibilities, each action is an opportunity to honor God. Reflect on how this perspective can change the way you approach your day-to-day activities. When we work with the intention of serving the Lord, it shifts our focus from seeking human approval to seeking God's approval. Today’s verses remind us of the incredible promise we have from God: He invites us to cast all our anxieties and cares upon Him. Psalm 55:22 echoes this sentiment, urging us to cast our burdens on the Lord. The psalmist assures us that God will sustain us and never let the righteous be moved. The word 'sustain' here means to support, uphold, and nourish. God is our sustainer; He provides the strength we need to endure and overcome any challenges we face. By casting our burdens on Him, we acknowledge our dependence on His strength rather than our own.

This means that without a clear understanding of God's purpose for our lives, we may lose direction and discipline. Vision provides structure and guidance, helping us to stay focused on our goals and live purposefully. Keeping God's law and seeking His revelation leads to true happiness and fulfillment.

In our pursuit of vision and purpose, it is vital to seek God's guidance through prayer and scripture. He knows the plans He has for us, plans to prosper us and give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11). By aligning our desires with His will, we can be assured that our vision is in accordance with His divine plan. This alignment brings peace and confidence, even in times of uncertainty.

"Walking by faith and not by sight" is a powerful directive from the Apostle Paul to the Corinthians. This verse (2 Corinthians 5:7) reminds us that our spiritual journey requires trust in God's guidance, even when we cannot physically see the path ahead. Faith transcends our human understanding and enables us to rely on God's wisdom and promises. It is a call to trust in the unseen and lean not on our limited perception of reality.

Similarly, Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Faith is the assurance that God's promises are true and will come to pass in His perfect timing.

It requires letting go of the need to have all the answers and instead, placing our confidence in God's character and faithfulness. When we walk by faith, we acknowledge that God's perspective is far greater than our own, and we trust Him to lead us according to His will. This kind of faith challenges us to step out of our comfort zones and follow God wholeheartedly, even when the path is unclear.

"As you embark on a new year, it's vital to remember that strength and courage are not solely human traits but divine promises. The Lord, in His infinite wisdom, commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous. This was not a mere suggestion but a charge: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9). This promise assures us that God is ever-present in our lives, guiding and protecting us through every challenge and triumph.

God's command to Joshua came at a pivotal moment when Joshua was to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, an enormous task filled with uncertainties and potential dangers. Similarly, as you step into the unknowns of the new year, you might face various challenges, fears, and doubts. However, the same God who was with Joshua is with you. His presence is the source of your strength and courage. Reflect on the profound truth that you are never alone; God is with you wherever you go.

Isaiah 41:10 further reinforces this assurance: "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Here, the Lord not only commands us not to fear but also provides a reason for this command. He is our God, and He promises to strengthen, help, and uphold us. These are powerful assurances that whatever comes your way, you have divine support.
