Created to Reflect Christ’s Love
8 minHusbands, you should love your wives in the same way as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it.
God said, “Let us make human beings in our image who are like us. They will have authority over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over the whole of the earth and every creature that moves on it.”
From the beginning, God made man in His image - not just to exist, but to reflect His very character. This divine imprint means that every man carries the potential to reflect God’s love, truth, and leadership. But this image is most clearly seen through how a man loves. That’s why Ephesians 5:25 gives such a powerful calling: love as Christ loved. This is not a weak love. It’s a fierce, self-sacrificing, steady love that lays down pride, comfort, and even life itself for the good of another.
Jesus, the perfect Man, used His authority not to dominate, but to rescue. He led with truth but also with tenderness. His love was strong enough to carry the weight of the world, and gentle enough to touch the outcast. For a man to walk in this kind of love is to mirror Christ’s nature. Psychologically, we know that love and leadership shape the human brain. Research shows that children raised under consistent, kind male leadership have healthier stress responses and stronger emotional regulation. Similarly, a man’s presence in a relationship - when rooted in secure, Christlike love - literally helps others feel safe, connected, and seen. Our brains thrive when we know we are protected and valued.
But society often trains men to withhold emotion, equating strength with silence. Jesus did not model that. He wept, He prayed openly, He embraced people with deep empathy. This is not weakness - it’s holy masculinity. It takes courage to stay present in conflict. It takes strength to choose service over selfishness. And it takes the Spirit of God to help us love with consistency when our emotions or surroundings are unstable.
Theologically, we understand that dominion was never about control. It was about stewardship. Man was given dominion to care for, nurture, and guard creation - not abuse it. The same applies to our homes, relationships, and influence. When a man walks in Christlike love, he leads without fear, speaks with wisdom, and serves with joy. He becomes a living example of God’s heart on Earth. So what does this mean for you today? You were made to carry love that transforms. Not because you have it all together, but because Christ in you gives you the strength to love beyond your own capacity. That is the call: to love as He loved. It’s not just a role - it’s your reflection of Heaven.
Reflection
Where in your life can you reflect Christ’s sacrificial love more clearly? Are there ways you’ve misunderstood strength or authority? What would it look like to love as Jesus does in your daily relationships? Practical Steps: Personalize Ephesians 5:25 by praying it over your family or those you lead. Choose one selfless act today - something that requires humility and shows love in action. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you identify any habits that don’t reflect Christ’s love, and invite His healing.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for being the perfect example of love. I want to lead like You, serve like You, and love like You. Heal any place in me that has misused authority or avoided responsibility. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can reflect Your heart to those around me. Let Your love shape me into the man You created me to be. In Your name I pray, amen.
