Like smoking tobacco, the Bible does not explicitly mention marijuana, but the principles of sobriety, self-control, and honoring the body as the temple of the Holy Spirit apply.
Sobriety and Self-Control: The Bible calls believers to be sober-minded and self-controlled. 1 Peter 5:8 NKJV says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." Since marijuana can alter a person’s state of mind and impair judgment, it may be seen as contrary to the call to sobriety.
Impact on the Body: As with smoking tobacco, the principle of caring for our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) applies. If marijuana use harms the body or leads to addiction, it could be viewed as inconsistent with this principle.
Obeying the Law: Romans 13:1 NKJV instructs believers to "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God." In many places, marijuana use is illegal, and violating the law would be against biblical teaching.
In light of these principles, smoking marijuana is generally discouraged, especially if it leads to addiction, impairs judgment, or violates the law.
