Faith. Technology. Purpose.
Bible Chat was founded by Laurentiu Balasa and Marius Iordache in 2023, with one clear goal: to help people find meaning by helping them connect more deeply with the Bible, with prayer, and with their purpose in life.
Bible Chat is the world’s most popular faith app and the fastest-growing faith-based app to date.
At our core, we are a small team of technology builders, part of the Soulstream company. But we’re also people who have gone through hardship, doubt, and loneliness. That’s why we created Bible Chat, a space where anyone can find comfort, guidance, and peace, especially in their toughest moments.
Our mission is simple but powerful:
Let's use AI to ease human suffering.
Let's use it to heal, to forgive, and to grow.
We believe technology should do more than entertain or distract. It should help us grow spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. That’s why we’re using AI in a new way: to support reflection, prayer, and Bible study.
And we’re building all of this on a foundation of compassionate capitalism, a belief that business should serve people first. We strive to grow in a way that is ethically sound, spiritually aligned, and rooted in love.
Our story began during a time of deep personal pain. In late 2018, Laurentiu hit a low point in his life, despite achieving material success, he felt lost and spiritually empty. That season of suffering sparked a powerful realization: true peace comes not from what we achieve, but from knowing who we are and why we’re here.
In that moment, the idea for Bible Chat was born. We began working on a simple Bible reading app, but quickly felt called to do more. With God’s guidance, we created something new: a way to help people talk to the Bible itself, ask their deepest questions, and get answers rooted in love and truth.
We built the first AI in the world trained exclusively on the Bible. This means every response you receive in Bible Chat is aligned with the Scripture, not influenced by the internet or outside opinions. Behind this, we use a highly advanced system called Retrieval-Augmented Generation, so answers are clear, grounded in the authority of Scripture, and built to earn your trust.
But we don’t stop at answers. We also offer:
Personalized and live prayers
Bible study plans tailored to your struggles
Audio versions of the Bible
And more tools are designed to bring you closer to God
To ensure accuracy and faithfulness, we work closely with a council of pastors and priests from different Christian traditions. They help guide our AI and keep our spiritual foundation strong.
We believe the Bible is more than just ancient text. It’s the shared story that has shaped societies, sparked revolutions, and united people across time and cultures.
We come from the world of technology, with years of experience building products used by millions. Laurentiu and Marius, our cofounders, have led successful tech ventures before, but this time, they chose to build something deeply meaningful.
Our team includes:
AI and software engineers who have developed cutting-edge systems from the ground up
Product designers and marketers focused on making digital experiences that feel personal, peaceful, and simple to use
Content specialists and faith-based advisors who ensure that everything we create is rooted in biblical truth - for more details, please check our editorial policy
A Biblical Council made up of pastors, priests, and theologians who review and guide our AI’s development. This council helps us preserve theological authority and ensures our AI provides answers you can trust.
We’ve combined this technical expertise with spiritual responsibility.
Every decision we make is focused on helping users grow in their relationship with God. We’re also looking to support people dealing with real emotional struggles, anxiety, grief, and depression.
Bible Chat is completely free to use, and that will never change. We believe everyone should have access to spiritual support, regardless of their financial situation. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to remove all barriers to prayer, Bible study, and faith-based guidance.
Around 5% of our users choose to subscribe and that small but mighty group makes a big difference. Their support helps cover essential costs like app development, server infrastructure, and outreach efforts. While we’re still operating at a loss, we see this as a long-term mission: a commitment to grow, to serve, and to keep improving every day.
Today, millions of Christians around the world use Bible Chat. We are deeply humbled by the trust they place in us, and inspired by the stories they share. With your help, we hope to one day reach and support a billion souls on their spiritual journeys.
We’re also incredibly grateful for the love from our global community. The app now holds a 4.9-star rating from over 150,000 Apple reviews and has received more than 9,750 reviews on Google Play - a powerful testament to its impact and the lives it’s touched.

Each month, we donate to Bible Chat Charity, a foundation that supports education and mental health programs in Bangladesh, Romania, and the U.S. This reflects what many of our users tell us: they’re looking for support with anxiety, depression, or emotional healing; and we want to be there for them.

The Bible Chat was born during a personal crossroads in my life. At 30, I hit a deep depression that completely changed my trajectory.
In today's technology landscape, the dominant narrative is one of relentless growth - an arms race of downloads, funding rounds, and user acquisition.
Just a few years ago, experts were predicting a mass decline of Christianity. The percentage of Americans identifying as Christian has fallen almost 20 points since 2000, while the population of non-affiliates was rising. But that decline has stalled out around 70%,
Romanian-founded Bible Chat raised a €13.41 million Series A led by Silicon Valley's True Ventures, with participation from Play Ventures, Early Game Ventures, Underline Ventures, and Silicon Gardens.
Early Game Ventures, the most active investment fund in Romania and among the most active VC funds in Central and Eastern Europe, according to Vestbee and ROPEA, announces the first major investment raised by a Romanian startup this year: Bible Chat closed a USD 14 million investment round today, February 19th.
Bible Chat, an app launched by Romanian entrepreneur Laurențiu Bălașa, aims to assist Christians of all denominations, regardless of the Bible they follow, with answers or counseling based on their problems. The app is currently expanding in the US. Bălașa, 34, told Economedia.ro that he developed the AI-powered application with the help of theology researchers after a period of depression.
