Open Soul Foundation and Pas cu Pas brought Christmas to children in Romania who missed the holiday, filling a February day with gifts, creative activities, and the message that every child deserves to be celebrated.
Some children do not get a full Christmas. The tree, the gifts, the warmth of being celebrated may pass them by entirely, lost to circumstances no child should have to carry. While the rest of the world moves on to a new year, these children carry the quiet absence of a holiday that never quite arrived. This February, Open Soul Foundation partnered with Pas cu Pas in Romania to make sure those children were not forgotten.
Christmas, On Their Terms
Christmas in February was exactly what it sounds like: a second chance at the holiday for children and young people who missed it the first time around. The event was filled with gifts, creative activities, and meaningful time spent together. It was not rushed or ceremonial. It was intentional, designed with a focus on inclusion and generosity, so that every child in the room could feel what it is like to be thought of, chosen, and celebrated.
For many of these children, the experience was not just about receiving a gift. It was about being in a space where joy was offered freely and without conditions. It was about sitting at a table surrounded by people who showed up specifically for them. Creative activities gave the children a chance to express themselves, to laugh, to play, and to simply be kids without the weight of everything else pressing in.
There is something powerful about reclaiming a moment that was missed. It tells a child: the world did not forget you. You were worth coming back for.

About Pas cu Pas
Pas cu Pas, meaning "step by step" in Romanian, works with children and young people in vulnerable situations across Romania. Their approach is relational and consistent, meeting young people where they are and walking with them toward stability, confidence, and belonging. They understand that transformation does not happen through a single event but through sustained presence, showing up again and again until trust is built and real growth becomes possible.
Open Soul Foundation, which operates charitable programs across the United States, Romania, and Ecuador, is honored to support Pas cu Pas and to co-create moments like Christmas in February. This partnership reflects a shared conviction that every child carries inherent worth, regardless of what their circumstances may suggest.
Why It Matters
A child who is remembered is a child who begins to believe they matter. That belief, planted early enough, can change the trajectory of a life. Open Soul Foundation and Pas cu Pas share this conviction: that generosity is not seasonal, that love is not limited to a calendar, and that no child should go uncelebrated.
Christmas in February was one evening. But for the children who were there, it may be the moment they look back on and remember: someone came for me.
