The first day of afterschool in Necșești brought warmth, structure, and real connection. From shared stories to hot meals, this quiet beginning is already changing how children experience learning and belonging.
A Day That Changes the Pace
Friday started quietly. Some of the children were already waiting when we arrived. Others came in slowly, uncertain but present. They didn’t know exactly what to expect, but they stayed. That, in itself, already meant something.
We began the first day of the afterschool program in Necșești. For the first time, the school stayed open after lessons ended, and the atmosphere didn’t feel rushed or empty. It felt like something was beginning to settle.
We spent the afternoon reading stories together and inviting questions. The discussions that followed weren’t planned. They came naturally—one child curious, another amused, a few thoughtful in a way that showed they were taking it all in. The materials we prepared weren’t complicated. They were chosen to open space for thinking, reflection, conversation.
We also introduced the first meal through the new catering support. The food wasn’t fancy, but it came on time, and it came with structure. The children sat together, unhurried, and ate with an ease that’s rarely present in places where meals aren’t a guarantee.
The space itself has changed. The last time we came, we began to shape the room—more light, softness, places to sit and read. Now, everything works together. Nothing extravagant. Just enough warmth and intention to help the room feel like it’s theirs.
Most of the children stayed longer than expected. No one told them to. They lingered, asked questions, wandered around the books again. A few asked when we’d return. One boy sat in silence, flipping through a story we hadn’t even introduced yet.
There’s no need for big declarations. The work has started, and it’s already taking root.
